Rizi & Karla - 17th September 2012

My latest set of photos of Riziki and Karla taken this afternoon, don't forget these are Safi's parents, so still heavily linked to the other pair of lions heavily featured on this blog.

Riziki and Karla are both now nine years old, and live in the oldest enclosure at Linton Zoo built in the 1980's. They make full use of the platform as well as using the brick wall at the back for shade during the Summer, it may not be as big as the more modern enclosure housing Zuri and Safi built in 2006, but it is definately more than adequate for a rather sleepy pair of lions!

So here we go a few photos, of a bundle of lions! Karla was obviously desperate for some company, and Riziki would not play ball! As you can see she is extremely fluffy, this is very common when lionesses are under contraception, Riziki and Karla are already well represented and therefore cubs are not needed at the moment. This is similar to when male lions are castrated, their manes will fall out, due to the loss of certain hormones.

I am hoping as always to go and visit these guys soon, so more pictures will be up, in the mean time these two are in absolute perfect health, and are now  both nine years old, so well into middle aged, and they definately enjoy what lions are best known for, they do sleep a hell of a lot!

I hope you enjoy the photos.

James
